The Pentagon chief revealed the details.
The United States and China have agreed to establish new channels of communication between the militaries "to de-conflict and de-escalate any issues that arise."
The head of the U.S. Department of War Pete Hegseth said this, according to CNN.
The Pentagon chief said that after U.S. President Donald Trump met with Chinese leader Si Jinping in South Korea, he had an "equally positive" meeting with Chinese National Defense Minister Dong Jun in Malaysia this week.
"The admiral and I agree that peace, stability and good relations are the best way forward for our two great and powerful countries," Hegseth wrote on social media X.
He went on to recall the words of Donald Trump, who said his historic Big Two meeting set the tone for the eternal peace and success of the United States.
"The Department of War will do the same - peace through strength, mutual respect and positive relations," Hegseth emphasized.
He added that the two sides have scheduled additional meetings to formalize these coordination efforts.
