On January 23, Alexander Lukashenko bypassed the Defense Ministry and the General Staff to raise a mechbrigade in Vitebshchina on alert because he sees "the situation in the world" and is afraid of ending up like Maduro. Such an explanation was given to the sudden inspection of the military unit by STV propagandist Grigory Azarenok, writes "Zerkalo".

The host of the pro-government TV channel noted that Alexander Lukashenko personally gave the command to the brigade commander.

- Why was it done? Well, we see <�...> situation in the world when they try to disconnect, what is called, the elites and the first person. Well, it happened in Venezuela," Azarenok said.

In this context, Azarenok mentioned that after the events in Venezuela, where the US special forces detained and brought to New York the leader of the country Nicolas Maduro, the opponents of the dictator reasoned that the Belarusan elites could "conspire and oppose Lukashenko somehow".
