Yandex Services Have "popped Up" All Over Belarus

The outages affected the company's taxi service, payment cards, and other services.

Attacks by Ukrainian drones on several data centers belonging to the largest company on the Russian-language internet led to one of its most popular projects, “Yandex. Taxi,” temporarily “restricting access” for potential drivers in Belarus.

The Association of Taxi Carriers in Belarus drew attention to this. As stated in its post, “this measure is necessary to ensure the stable operation of those who already cooperate with ‘Yandex.Taxi’.

“As soon as everything is restored, the application form will be open,” the Association assures.

As reported by Office Life, drivers from “Yandex.Taxi” have begun switching to other services.

In industry chat rooms, people are discussing that WB Taxi has a backlog of applications awaiting moderation. They say the company is approving literally five new partners a day and is currently reviewing applications submitted back in the summer.

The company declined to comment on the “complex” situation surrounding “Yandex.Taxi,” adding that “speculation is inappropriate in this context.”

The 7788 Office Life service confirmed that they have been seeing an influx of taxi drivers since Monday, October 12.

“They’re calling constantly and messaging us on chat apps. There are at least 30–40% more requests than usual,” the company said.

They explained that first, they sign a contract with these drivers, and then they still need to be added to the registry. But all of this takes a day or two at most. The service has no restrictions—drivers who also work with other platforms can join.

For her part, Ekaterina Cheretun, director of “Taxi 135,” says that the market situation has indeed sparked a significant response.

“We’re currently seeing a significant influx of new partners—both individual entrepreneurs and large transportation companies. To help everyone promptly, our specialists have switched to an enhanced work schedule and extended their workday. “We understand that it’s important for people to continue working and earning a living,” she explained.

According to her, upon realizing that the demand extends beyond the capital, the company made a strategic decision to expand the “Taxi 135” service nationwide. The company believes that its proprietary technology-driven software “is in no way inferior to Yandex for both customers and drivers and has already been successfully tested through millions of completed rides.”

Representatives of the “A1 Taxi” service also stated that they are continuing to expand their partner network and are inviting transportation providers, fleet owners, and entrepreneurs involved in passenger transportation to collaborate with them. They are offering partnerships not only in Minsk but throughout the country. The company added that the process of signing contracts “is proceeding very actively.” Incidentally, “A1 Taxi” has launched an active advertising campaign emphasizing that it is a “reliable Belarusian service.”

Who else has been affected besides taxi drivers?

It has also been reported that on October 15, the “Yandex Panoramas” service stopped working in Belarus. Specifically, it is no longer possible to view photos of specific locations on “Yandex Maps.”

It is reported that a significant portion of the data from popular Russian educational services has been lost at Yandex’s data centers. As a result, the future of dozens, if not hundreds, of Belarusian tutors who collaborated with these services is now uncertain.
