More than half of the UAVs intercepted over the past week in Russian regions were heading toward the Russian capital.

During the week of October 10–17, the Russian Federation’s air defense forces “destroyed” 2,730 Ukrainian drones that were flying “toward the Moscow region,” stated Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

“Most of them were destroyed by air defense forces at distant frontiers. 534 drones were neutralized as they approached Moscow,” — he wrote on his Telegram channel amid yet another shutdown at Moscow’s airport hub linked to UAV raids. Judging by the graph in a video visualizing the attacks on Moscow, the number of downed drones heading toward the city was rising every day.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a total of more than 4,500 Ukrainian UAVs were shot down in the skies over Russian regions this week. On the night of October 9–10, air defense and electronic warfare units eliminated 560 drones, and another 78 were shot down by evening. On October 11, 591 drones were intercepted; on the 12th, 184; on October 13, 674 UAVs; and on the night of the 14th, 902. On Wednesday, following a statement by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak regarding an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Saratov and Ryazan oil refineries, the Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of another 91 drones in those two regions. On October 15, 153 drones were intercepted; on the 16th—691. Authorities reported another 610 drones on Saturday morning. Taking Sobyanin’s data into account, more than half of all Ukrainian drones included in the reports were flying toward Moscow from October 10 to 17.

According to the Ministry of Defense, drones were shot down not only in Russia’s border regions, in annexed Crimea and over the waters of the Black and Azov Seas, as well as in the southern regions of Russia, the central regions, and areas farther from Moscow—Tatarstan, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, and others.

The largest attack on Moscow and the Moscow Region occurred on the night of September 20. At that time, Sobyanin stated that “since yesterday, more than 1,600 UAVs have been shot down at all front lines; of which 450 were approaching Moscow.” Several UAVs attacked the Gazprom Neft oil refinery (MNPZ) in Kapotnya. According to authorities, three people were killed, and more than 40 others, including six children, were injured.
