In The U.S., They've Figured Out How To Punish Trump For Restricting Starlink's Operations In Ukraine

Republicans and Democrats issued a joint statement in the Senate.

Republicans and Democrats in the Senate have told senior White House officials that they will block President Donald Trump’s nominees currently under consideration on Capitol Hill. This was reported by The New York Times.

It is noted that this will continue until the administration restores the satellite communications used by the Ukrainian military. This move will intensify the bipartisan confrontation with the Trump administration over the White House’s increasingly conciliatory approach toward Russia.

“It will play out as Congress works through a period in which Republicans are expected to push for the confirmation of dozens of Trump nominees before the current Congress adjourns,” the publication writes.

Republican Brian Fitzpatrick threatened to fire the U.S. officials responsible for the glitches, stating that he doubts the problems were accidental.

He expressed concern over delays in the delivery of ballistic missile interceptors, malfunctions in early-warning systems, and restrictions imposed by the Starshield program.

Similar concerns were raised during a separate phone call with Zelenskyy organized by Senators Richard Blumenthal and Tom Tillis.

They stated that the Ukrainian leader reported continued disruptions to critical satellite services, including on drones traveling at speeds exceeding 160 kilometers per hour, which makes it difficult for Ukraine to intercept Russian drones. The senators’ joint statement reads:

“Funding the Russian war machine, disrupting Ukrainian satellite communications, and weakening its air defense—all of these are obstacles to peace.”

According to a U.S. official who visited Kyiv, the disruptions also jeopardized the safety of U.S. personnel in Ukraine.

He said warnings of the attacks came so late that U.S. diplomats were unable to reach fortified bunkers and were forced to take cover in hallways.

A senator’s aide reported that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee had approved several shipments of critical interceptors for the air defense system, which have not yet arrived in Ukraine, raising concerns about delays in providing aid which has already been approved by Congress.

He claims that staff are also considering the possibility of launching an investigation into SpaceX regarding satellite malfunctions and have asked companies involved in transactions involving Russian diesel fuel to preserve documents pending possible congressional investigations.
