The U.S. president is facing problems in Congress.

The U.S. was forced to fully restore Starlink operations for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Ultimately, this scandal resulted in a sharp increase in pressure from members of Congress on the administration to support aid to Ukraine.

On October 22–23, several such initiatives were introduced in Congress. A bipartisan group of senators and members of Congress demanded that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset expand the Pentagon’s contract for Starshield, SpaceX’s military satellite system, and to restore Ukraine’s full access to Starlink and Starshield without speed restrictions.

Three members of Congress from Silicon Valley have demanded that White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles investigate the circumstances surrounding the communication restrictions and hold a briefing within 14 days. They want to determine who made the decision and whether SpaceX violated the terms of its government contracts.

More importantly, on October 22, Republican Brian Fitzpatrick introduced a bill co-sponsored by Republican Don Bacon and Democrat Marie Glusenkamp Perez. The bill calls for the revocation of the U.S. Treasury Department’s October 9 authorization for transactions involving Russian diesel fuel, as well as the mandatory sharing of U.S. intelligence and satellite imagery with Ukraine. Any suspension of such assistance must be accompanied by notification to the congressional intelligence committees within 24 hours.

According to The New York Times, senators from both parties warned the White House that they would block the confirmation of Trump’s nominees for government positions until the administration ensures the restoration of critically important satellite communications for the Ukrainian military. Fitzpatrick also threatened to push for the dismissal of responsible officials and budget cuts for their agencies.
Trump and Musk’s betrayal has outraged not only Democrats but also quite a few Republicans. So Trump, as always, backed down. But this won’t derail the pro-Ukrainian momentum in Congress. And there’s more to come after the election, which Trump supporters will obviously lose.
