The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine commented on the Le Monde article.
The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kirill Budanov has spoken out about disinformation campaigns targeting the negotiation process. He denies reports regarding the details of communications during the negotiations that have recently appeared in the media.
Budanov made this statement in a comment RBC-Ukraine.
“As for the alleged ‘inside information’ regarding the details of the communication—that information is not true; nothing of the sort happened. We are currently witnessing information attacks on the negotiation process. It is important to keep a cool head and remember our key goal—lasting peace for Ukraine. We are doing everything we can to achieve this,” stated the head of the Presidential Office.
What Le Monde wrote about the negotiations
Earlier, the French newspaper Le Monde published an article about an allegedly tense incident during the negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations on October 9.
According to the publication, which cited an unnamed source present at the negotiations, U.S. President’s Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff proposed a so-called “regional prosperity plan.” It called for the full restoration of Russian gas and oil transit to Europe through Ukrainian territory, with Kyiv receiving a share of the profits.
According to Le Monde’s source, Whitcoff described this proposal as beneficial to both sides.
The publication also described Budanov’s alleged sharp reaction to this initiative. According to the source, he stated, “Our model is not Belarus, but Poland!” After which he broke off the negotiations and called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In addition, the publication, citing a source, reported that the negotiations were definitively suspended when the Ukrainian delegation learned of the “diesel agreement” that Trump had recently concluded with Russia.
“Accept this diesel fuel agreement and stop striking Russian oil refineries! You’re putting the world in danger!” Whitcoff said irritably to the Ukrainians, according to the publication’s source.
