The Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya was hit.

On the night of October 6, a series of explosions rocked Moscow and the Moscow Region in Russia. The region was rocked by a large-scale drone attack that paralyzed airport operations, according to "Focus".

Attack drones are flying into the Moscow Region simultaneously from several different directions. A large number of UAVs are flying toward the Russian capital, where air defense systems are actively engaged in the surrounding areas. OSINT channels reported the attack, citing eyewitness accounts.

“The Moscow Region is under a massive UAV attack. Strike drones are penetrating the region simultaneously from different directions,” analysts write.

Eyewitnesses also reported a large number of explosions in various parts of the Moscow Region. Russian air defense systems are actively engaged due to threats in the sky, according to online reports.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin also reported around 2:30 a.m. that at least 13 drones, which were heading toward the Russian capital, had allegedly been shot down. A few minutes later, he posted on his channel that another 15 drones had been shot down in the Moscow area.

“Emergency response specialists are working at the crash site,” Sobyanin said, without providing further details about the attack.

As of 3:30 a.m., the number of drones flying toward Moscow stood at 57.

Amid the large-scale attack, Rosaviatsiya announced the temporary suspension of operations at three major Moscow airports—Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Sheremetyevo. The airports are temporarily not dispatching or receiving flights.

The Moscow Oil Refinery may have been targeted

Around 3:00 a.m., reports emerged regarding which specific facility had been targeted in the nighttime attack on the Moscow Region. According to monitoring channels—which require confirmation—it was the Moscow Oil Refinery, located in Kapotnya.

“Defense forces struck the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya,” analysts report.

It is worth noting that the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya is a subsidiary of Russia’s Gazprom—Gazpromneft—Moscow Oil Refinery. The refinery’s capacity is approximately 11–11.6 million metric tons of crude oil per year. The facility supplies about 40% of Moscow’s fuel market and up to 70% of the Moscow Region’s demand for gasoline and jet fuel.
