Voting has begun in the congressional special election.

Voting has begun in the United States for the midterm congressional elections. Polling stations have opened on the East Coast, including in the states of Connecticut, Maine, New York, New Jersey, as well as in some areas of Kentucky and Indiana. This is reported by the Associated Press.

All 435 members of the House of Representatives will be elected, as well as 35 senators: 33 in regular elections for Class II seats and two more in special elections in Florida and Ohio.

Also on November 3, gubernatorial elections will be held in 36 states, along with elections for state legislators and local officials, as well as referendums at both the state and municipal levels.

The congressional election process consists of two stages: first, the primaries, followed by the general election. Vote counting can take several days, especially in states where mail-in voting is widespread.

More than 50 million people voted early in the election, breaking the 2022 record of 45.9 million Americans.

The outcome of the election will determine whether Republicans can retain control of both chambers of Congress and ensure that U.S. President Donald Trump can pursue his policies unhindered for the remaining two years of his second term. Democratic control of the House of Representatives will allow them to chair committees, conduct investigations into the president’s family and administration, and block or impose conditions on funding for the president’s initiatives and even military operations, including those in Iran. In addition, the president’s opponents will have the opportunity to initiate impeachment proceedings.
