The President of Ukraine met with the German Defense Minister.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and agreed to explore the possibility of expediting the delivery of PAC-2 missiles for the Patriot systems. According to the president, this would help Ukraine get through the winter amid Russian attacks on energy infrastructure and a shortage of interceptor missiles. The president announced this on Facebook.
Zelenskyy briefed the German minister on the situation regarding Russian shelling of critical infrastructure in various regions of Ukraine. He emphasized that countering ballistic missiles remains particularly challenging due to a shortage of interceptors for the Patriot systems.
“We have a solid contract to purchase German-made PAC-2 missiles for the next two years. We are working to expedite deliveries. This would significantly help Ukrainians get through this winter,” Zelenskyy noted.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed that their teams would explore the possibility of expediting PAC-2 deliveries, as well as other issues related to military aid. In particular, they discussed the IRIS-T air defense systems and ammunition for F-16 fighter jets. Zelenskyy thanked Pistorius, Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Germany for their support of Ukraine’s defense.
