Media: Trump's Team Is Considering A Replacement For The U.S. Secretary Of State
Marco Rubio

It has been revealed who might replace Rubio.

U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor may become the new Secretary of State, replacing Marco Rubio, who may begin preparing for a future presidential campaign.

This was reported by The Washington Sun.

According to 10 people, Gore, a former high-ranking White House official and close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, has been laying the groundwork for a major promotion following the midterm congressional elections.

With his extensive network and direct access to Trump, he has been increasingly involved in high-level meetings, giving him influence far beyond his role as ambassador. The publication reports that Gora is considered a key intermediary between Washington and much of Asia, as well as a confidant of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“The former head of the White House Office of Personnel Management maintains ties with all branches of the Trump administration, having played a key role in vetting and appointing thousands of officials,” the article states.

Currently, within Trump’s inner circle, Gore is being discussed as a candidate for high-level positions in the administration during the second half of the presidential term. It is also widely believed among State Department staff that Sergio Gore is interested in such a promotion.

“Gore’s name has been mentioned as a possible candidate for a number of influential positions, including White House chief of staff and replacing Rubio as secretary of state,” said sources familiar with internal discussions.

At this time, neither Rubio nor White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has publicly stated their intention to leave the administration.

However, some people in the State Department and Republican political circles believe that Rubio may leave the administration to prepare for a future presidential campaign in 2028 or 2032. Wiles’s position is also seen as being in jeopardy within Trump’s inner circle.

Additionally, several sources have reported that Gore would be interested in another promotion within the State Department. Among the options being discussed is replacing Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau, who, according to one source, allegedly stated that he would step down after the midterm elections if the Republicans lose. However, in a comment to the publication, Landau denied making such a statement.

In addition, The Washington Sun contacted Sergio Gore. He also denied reports that he was interested in another job, adding that he had never discussed the possibility of moving to a different position with anyone.

“This story is complete and utter nonsense. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has proven himself to be the most qualified, experienced, and greatest secretary of state in history. He is irreplaceable and a dear friend with whom I have had the good fortune to work every day as U.S. Ambassador to India—it is a true honor of a lifetime. I have no interest in any other position,” he told the publication.

Republican Defeat

As a reminder, on November 3, the U.S. held midterm congressional elections, during which the Democrats took control of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. The new lawmakers will take office in early January 2027.

Meanwhile, CBS News reports that the Republicans’ crushing defeat could lead to high-profile resignations in the U.S. Sources say that one possibility could be the replacement of Pentagon chief Pete Hegset, as he was one of those who pushed Trump toward the idea of starting a war with Iran and successfully bringing it to an end.
