The ships are expected to arrive in mid-November.

The White House administration continues to consider various options for further action regarding Iran. Against this backdrop, the buildup of U.S. naval forces in the Middle East is a logical step. It has been decided to deploy the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and its escort ships to the region. They are expected to arrive by the end of November.

Axios journalist reported Axios journalist Barack Ravid, citing a U.S. official. The carrier strike group is currently in the South China Sea.

On November 5, U.S. President Donald Trump held a meeting with national security advisers. Among the issues discussed were Washington’s next steps regarding Tehran. According to Axios, the U.S. administration is considering several scenarios: resuming large-scale airstrikes against Iran, continuing economic pressure, or reaching agreements with Tehran.

Commenting on the possibility of new strikes, Trump said: “Now we’ll make a decision. Do we want to go further?”

He also noted that he would prefer not to destroy the rest of the country if it can be avoided.

At the same time, U.S. Central Command is finalizing preparations for a possible resumption of large-scale combat operations against Iran. However, according to Axios, as of this writing, CENTCOM had not yet received the relevant order from Washington.

The arrival of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt could bolster U.S. naval forces in the region. According to Axios, if other carrier strike groups remain in the Middle East, the U.S. could have three such strike groups there simultaneously.

What is included in an aircraft carrier strike group

The USS Theodore Roosevelt is a Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier equipped with a nuclear propulsion system. It serves as the core of the carrier strike group, which includes escort ships and an air wing.

According to USNI News, a carrier strike group consists of four main ships. In addition to the USS Theodore Roosevelt, it includes:

USS Chosin—a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser providing air and missile defense;

USS Paul Hamilton—a guided-missile destroyer;

USS Decatur—an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer;
USS Theodore Roosevelt—a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier carrying Carrier Air Wing 11.

The air wing includes F/A-18 Super Hornet and F-35C fighter jets, EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft, and E-2D Hawkeye long-range radar detection aircraft.

The unmanned surface vessel Seahawk is also participating in the deployment.

The escort ships provide air and missile defense for the task force and are equipped with capabilities to engage targets at sea and on land.

What is the route of the U.S. aircraft carrier

It is known that the USS Theodore Roosevelt departed the naval base in San Diego on September 27 and set out on a long-range deployment. In late October, it took part in the Keen Sword 27 joint naval exercises involving the U.S. and its allies.

On November 4, the U.S. Navy released a photo of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt sailing alongside the Australian Navy support ship HMAS Stalwart. The caption noted that the aircraft carrier was conducting routine operations in the U.S. Seventh Fleet’s area of responsibility.

The Chinese company MizarVision also released satellite images which, according to its assessment, show a U.S. carrier strike group in the area. The images identified the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, the guided-missile cruiser USS Chosin, and the destroyer USS Roosevelt.

According to USNI News, the aircraft carrier is scheduled to call at Singapore before arriving in the Middle East. It will remain there for several days before continuing on to the area of responsibility of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

The U.S. task force is expected to arrive in the region in mid-November.
