The WTA has canceled a special traditional ritual at the Year-End Championships.
From November 8 to 15, the WTA Finals will be held in Indian Wells, where Belarusian Arina Sobolenko will be among the eight players competing for the title.
For Sobolenko, this marks her sixth appearance in such a tournament in her career and her sixth in a row. She has previously reached the final twice, but came up short both times. Specifically, in the 2025 season, she lost the championship match to Kazakhstani tennis player Elena Rybakina.
Rybakina, who knocked Sobolenko off the top spot in the world rankings a couple of months ago, is considered the top favorite now as well. Arina, meanwhile, is ranked second among the contenders. In the group stage, her opponents will be Karolína Muchová, Mirra Andreeva, and Elina Svitolina.
Interestingly, at the request of the Ukrainian tennis player, the WTA canceled the traditional ritual in which all eight participants pose for a group photo. Svitolina asked to avoid group photos with the Russian Andreeva and the Belarusian Sobolenko. This was reported by reported by the WTA press service.
