The Smolensk region has begun temporarily relocating residents of the Dorogobuzh district, where the Dorogobuzh chemical plant, which caught fire as a result of a Ukrainian drone attack, sources told Lenta.ru. "People have already been brought to our club from Pushkarevo. Pushkarevo is a village near the factory. First comes Pushkarevo, then Eliseenki, then Polibino. They will be evacuated," - said a resident of the village Sadovaya.
The earlier evacuation was mentioned by the Governor of the Smolensk region Vasily Anokhin, saying that it may be necessary to "minimize possible threats to the population." At the same time, he assured that the hotbeds of fire at the plant have already been localized.
The strike on Dorogobuzh was carried out on the morning of February 25. The Investigative Committee reported that seven people died as a result, with 10 more injured. According to Lenta.ru's sources, the attack hit the ammonia and nitrate workshops, resulting in a massive fire that could be seen from several kilometers away. The publication's interlocutors also reported damage to the Dorogobuzh thermal power plant, causing homes to lose water supply. Residents complained that there was no bottled water left in stores.
"Dorogobuzh" produces mineral fertilizers and chemical products, including ammonium nitrate and nitric acid, which are needed to create explosives.
SK said the plant was attacked by at least 30 drones - resulting in damage to "infrastructure elements" as well as a fire station building and a special vehicle for extinguishing fires.
According to Ukrainian monitoring channel Supernova+, the drones may have destroyed "the main autothermal synthesis unit in the nitric acid/ammonia circuit - in fact the key node of the entire nitrogen chemistry of the enterprise." "If the information is confirmed, restoration could take at least several months, leading to a prolonged shutdown of the production process," he wrote.
"Dorogobuzh is owned by the Acron Group, whose majority owner is European Jewish Congress President Vyacheslav Kantor." The company, which produces 2.2 million tons of products a year, employs more than 2,800 people.
