The conversation was very friendly and lasted half an hour.

US President Donald Trump said during a phone call with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky that he wants to see an end to the war in Ukraine as soon as possible, sources with knowledge of the call told Axios.

They said Zelensky expressed hope that a peace agreement would be signed by the end of 2026, but Trump said the hostilities have lasted too long and that he wants them over in a month.

The portal's interlocutors specified that the conversation between Trump and Zelensky, which took place the previous evening, February 25, was very friendly and lasted half an hour.

The Ukrainian president thanked the head of the White House for his help and said that only he could make Putin stop the war. The two presidents then discussed a trilateral meeting with Putin.

After the conversation, Zelensky said that a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the United States and Russia is planned for early March. "We expect that it will make it possible to move to negotiations at the level of leaders. President Trump supports such a sequence of steps," - said the Ukrainian leader. At the same time, Zelensky once again emphasized that only at a personal meeting with Putin "it is possible to solve all complex and sensitive issues and finally end the war."

The third round of talks between Ukraine, the US and Russia since the beginning of the year was previously planned to be held at the end of February. However, sources of the Russian state agency TASS said that the meeting was postponed and the new place and time of the talks are still being discussed. It was not specified for what reason the meeting was postponed. US presidential special envoy Steve Whitkoff said the day before that a new round of talks could take place within the next ten days.

In the meantime, according to Verstka's sources, the Kremlin does not expect the war to end as a result of the trilateral talks and is preparing to hold Duma elections this September under a military agenda. According to the publication's interlocutors, the position of the Russian negotiators has not changed because "the goals of the SWO" have not been achieved. At the same time, the Kremlin views the talks themselves as "a tool to contain the escalation of the conflict." "While we are negotiating, Ukraine does not have Tomahawks, roughly speaking," one of the sources explained.
