The crews of HMS Prince of Wales have been alerted to a possible mission.
The UK is preparing the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales for possible deployment to the Middle East, cutting the timeframe for its preparation to go to sea in half - to five days. This is reported by Sky News.
According to the publication, the accelerated readiness timeframe will allow the ship to respond more quickly if a decision is made to mobilize it.
The source said that crews have also been warned of a possible deployment amid the US and Israeli operation against Iran.
Sky News notes that the move does not mean the aircraft carrier will be immediately dispatched to bolster Britain's defenses in the Persian Gulf or around Cyprus. HMS Prince of Wales, which carries F-35 fighter jets and requires escort by other ships and a submarine, remains at the base for now.
But the accelerated preparations give Prime Minister Keir Starmer more flexibility to make a quick decision on its redeployment if necessary.
The aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales is now based in Portsmouth.
