The U.S. Has Sent Shahed "assassins" To The Middle East

They are well established in Ukraine.

The U.S. Army is rushing anti-drone complexes tested in combat conditions in Ukraine to the Middle East. Their purpose is to counter Iranian "Shaheds," writes The Wall Street Journal.

A small number of Merops systems from U.S. Army stockpiles in Europe have already been sent to the Middle East, according to U.S. officials. U.S. personnel will not only operate these systems, but also train other servicemen to work with them.

One of the U.S. officials told reporters that Ukraine is likely to provide instructors. The publication recalled that earlier Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that the United States and its regional allies had asked Kiev for help in fighting Iranian drones.

In addition, journalists note that Ukraine's combat experience is of interest to Qatar and other Persian Gulf countries. Representatives of these states recently visited Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian arms manufacturers.

The publication also reminds that in 2025, the United States and its allies deployed several Merops systems in Poland and Romania after incursions by Russian drones. The system has also been widely used by the Ukrainian military.
