Iran Has Put Forward A New Proposal To The U.S. To End The War

Tehran insists first on an end to the war and guarantees.

Iran has offered to end its war with the United States and end attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz on the condition that the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports be lifted and that nuclear talks be postponed. The proposal was passed through intermediaries, the Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal and PBS wrote, citing sources among officials.

The Axios publication had previously reported that the White House had received a proposal in which Tehran insists on ending the war before discussing a nuclear program. According to the publication, Iranian officials are at odds over what nuclear concessions should be considered.

White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales told CNN that these are sensitive diplomatic negotiations and the U.S. will not conduct them through the press. "As the president has said, the Trumps are in the hands of the United States and will only make a deal if the interests of the American people come first and Iran never gets a nuclear weapon," she stressed.

President Donald Trump plans to meet with senior national security officials on April 27 to discuss the impasse in negotiations with Iran. The meeting comes after Trump abruptly canceled a trip by envoy Steve Whitkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner to Pakistan for another round of talks with the Iranians. It is scheduled to discuss options on how to proceed, including a resumption of bombing. A truce is now in effect between the US and Iran.

The White House chief explained that he decided to cancel his negotiators' trip to Islamabad because Tehran failed to present a satisfactory proposal. He declined to send his team without a clearer understanding of what concessions Iran might agree to and who exactly makes the decisions there.
