Armenian border guards will replace Russian border guards currently guarding Armenia's border with Iran and Turkey. This was announced by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Pashinyan noted that the Armenian side pays Russian border guards for their work, while representatives of the Russian Federation raised the issue of increasing the price for these services. Yerevan came to the conclusion that the increased sums should be spent on the development of its own border potential.
"Gradually, the Russian colleagues will fit into the sums that will not be too burdensome for us. And we will take control over the remaining sections. This is stipulated by the agreement," the prime minister said.
In February, Nikol Pashinyan suggested that Russian authorities sell the concession on Armenia's railroads to some of the countries friendly to both states. The prime minister emphasized that Armenia "has nothing against Russia," however, the Russian concession creates "certain competitive losses" for his country.
