Russian Authorities Have Banned The Import Of Starlink Into The Country

The decision was attributed to "national security."

The government of aggressor country Russia has banned the importation of foreign devices for transmitting and receiving radio waves from space communication objects. The relevant decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on April 29, and was highlighted by Radio Liberty.

The definition includes Starlink terminals.

The document says the purpose of the ban is to "protect the national security" of Russia. The ban will be in effect for six months after the decree comes into force.

In March 2026, it became known that the Russian company Bureau 1440, which is creating a Russian analog of Starlink, put into orbit the first 16 serial satellites of the low-orbit communications constellation Rassvet. The Russian Federation expects to have 292 satellites in the constellation by the end of 2030, with a total of 383 satellites planned to be launched. The commercial launch of the service is scheduled for 2027.
