We are talking about provocations in the Strait of Hormuz.
In recent days, Iran has been attacking merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz with drones every night, ahead of the signing of a preliminary peace agreement with the U.S. on June 19. This is reported by NBC News citing an anonymous U.S. military official.
According to NBC News, merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz are attacked by drones from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps nearly every night.
The U.S. military shoots down all Iranian drones. Every night, the Iranians launch attacks using several unmanned aerial vehicles.
The NBC News source did not specify what, in his opinion, the attacks on merchant ships in the Persian Gulf region are intended to achieve, given that the U.S. and Iran are preparing to sign a preliminary peace agreement.
The preliminary agreement between the U.S. and Iran is called the “Memorandum of Understanding.” The parties are expected to sign it on June 19 in Europe. Within 60 days after that, Washington and Tehran must negotiate and sign a final peace agreement.
The memorandum consists of 14 points, and further negotiations between U.S. and Iranian representatives depend on the fulfillment of some of them.
Al Arabiya claims that negotiations on a final peace agreement will not begin until the United States unfreezes Iranian assets, lifts sanctions on Iranian oil, and stops blocking Iranian ports.
Only then will the parties reportedly begin discussing Iran’s nuclear program.
