There are currently about 10,000 U.S. military personnel stationed in Poland.
Pentagon Chief Pete Hegset supported the Polish Ministry of Defense’s proposal to establish a permanent U.S. military base in the country. This was announced by Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Mr. Kosiniak-Kamysz sent a letter with the proposal to the Pentagon chief on May 29. At a meeting of NATO defense ministers, Mr. Hegset said that he and his team support the idea. “A permanent presence of U.S. troops is a goal that previous governments have also strived for,” said the Polish defense minister.
According to the Polish minister, the country also supports the “NATO 3.0” strategy and concept, which Pete Hegset had discussed the day before. The Pentagon chief stated that the military alliance needs to return to a tough stance to “deter threats on the continent,” rather than focusing on “gender equality issues” and “severe defense budget cuts.”
Currently, there are about 10,000 U.S. military personnel stationed in Poland. In mid-May, the U.S. canceled the deployment of more than 4,000 troops to Poland due to the possible redeployment of units from Germany. Later, Donald Trump stated that the United States would still send 5,000 troops.
