Trump and the media are predicting the prime minister's resignation.
British Minister for Business and Trade Peter Kyle has denied reports that Prime Minister Kira Starmer is planning to resign. Speaking on Sky News on Sunday, June 21, the official emphasized that such reports are untrue and amount to nothing more than political speculation. Kyle also rejected claims that the prime minister had lost control of the cabinet, assuring viewers that Starmer is successfully leading the government and achieving success in foreign policy. To back up his remarks, the minister cited his recent meeting with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi during the G7 summit, which gave new momentum to negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement.
Meanwhile, amid discussions of a possible political crisis in London, U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in. On June 21, on his social media platform Truth Social, he expressed confidence that Starmer would inevitably step down from his post. The American leader linked the British prime minister’s likely resignation to failures in energy and immigration policy, adding that he considers the matter practically settled and ironically wished the British prime minister good luck.
Earlier, the BBC, citing its own sources in government circles and the Labour Party, reported a dramatic shift in the situation surrounding Starmer. Journalists noted that the country’s leadership had begun openly discussing a scenario in which the prime minister would announce specific dates for his departure as early as Monday, June 22. According to the broadcaster, Starmer’s position has been weakened by falling approval ratings, dissatisfaction among his party colleagues, and a series of resignations by key ministers. Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham was named as the favorite to become the next Labour leader and head of the government. Despite this, Keir Starmer himself had insisted until recently that he planned to remain in his post and continue his work.
