They gave us very little time to move.

On social media, Belarusians are reporting on a new scandal in Ratomka: according to them, owners of privately owned horses were given only a few days to remove their animals from the stables of the Republican Center for Olympic Training in Equestrian Sports and Horse Breeding. There are approximately 90–96 horses involved, including older horses and pregnant mares, according to citydog.io.

What happened?

Yesterday, June 27, a Belarusian woman with the username di_plyusha wrote on Threads that in Ratomka, about 90 privately owned horses could end up on the street as early as Wednesday, July 1. According to her, the owners were told they must vacate the stables, but were given very little time to relocate.

“There’s an emergency in Ratomka. 90 thoroughbred horses are being evicted onto the street. Literally. On Friday evening, the Center’s management issued a notice: vacate the stables by July 1. People were given exactly two working days to move such a large herd. Horses aren’t boxes in a warehouse—you can’t just put them outside the fence,” the woman wrote.

Other Belarusians on social media also began discussing the situation. User kus_juliaa wrote that the notice to private horse owners arrived on June 26. According to her, 96 horses must leave the stables by July 1.

She explains that such a rushed move could lead to injuries, a loss of athletic form, and severe stress for the animals—especially in the case of sport horses, pregnant mares, and older animals.

“We are not opposed to dialogue and are open to discussing new terms. We ask for one thing: reasonable deadlines and solutions that will not endanger the animals or their riders,” the user wrote.

“I have two sport horses at the center; they’re on the junior national team roster. My daughter is a Master of Sports, a member of the Belarusian national team, who always competes for the center—both on her own horses and on state-owned ones—and represents her country with dignity at every event, winning both national and international competitions. Her whole life revolves around sports! The sports infrastructure in Ratomka is critically important to us! But it turns out that no one cares about our efforts and results—they’re kicking us out too,” wrote ol.sadova.

What is the reason for this urgent eviction?

As of this publication, there has been no public comment from representatives of the equestrian center in Ratomka. The center’s social media accounts are currently only posting about the international competitions currently taking place at the venue.

In the comments, Belarusians are asking why the owners were given so little notice—as stipulated in the contracts—and whether there will be any compensation. One user also suggested that the reason might be an auction for stable spaces.

di_plyusha herself later compared the situation to an apartment where a person has lived for many years and then suddenly learns that the right to reside there has been put up for auction.

“But my horse isn’t thrilled! He’s lived here for 10 years of his life and now has to move out because of management’s ambitions,” she wrote.

Users are asking for the situation to be made public and are tagging journalists and bloggers on social media. Some are already offering help: for example, one commenter wrote that they could temporarily take in one of the horses at their place outside the city.
