Cash Withdrawal Limits Have Been Imposed In Crimea

The restrictions are due to "increased load" on the network.

Following the gasoline shortage, which hit Crimea due to Ukrainian strikes on the “land corridor” and ships in the Kerch Strait, the peninsula now appears to be facing a shortage of cash rubles.

According to RBC, the state-owned VTB Bank, which operates a network of 1,400 ATMs in Crimea, has imposed restrictions on cash withdrawals from cards issued by other banks. The reduced limits will remain in effect until August 1 and are due to “increased demand” on the network, the bank said.

According to PSKB, a small Crimean bank, VTB ATMs now allow withdrawals of no more than 15,000 rubles per day and 50,000 rubles per month. The limits have been reduced by a factor of 10 and 6, respectively; previously, they were 150,000 and 300,000 rubles.

A Crimean resident told The Moscow Times that VTB has also imposed limits on the number of cash withdrawal transactions. After one such transaction, she received a receipt stating that she had “two withdrawals” remaining within the territory of the Republic of Crimea. “At the branch, a young man—the branch manager—told me not to make a big deal out of it, saying, ‘Don’t you see what’s going on?’” the Crimean woman complained.
