Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a change in Ukraine’s political strategy and corresponding personnel changes. He wrote about this on Sunday, July 12, on social media following a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko.
The President of Ukraine emphasized that each priority area of foreign policy will be overseen by a specific individual with significant experience, “capable of implementing what we agree upon at the leadership level and what the Ukrainian people expect.”
According to the president, the most significant of these areas are:
The United States and agreements on licenses for the production of Patriot systems, as well as other bilateral cooperation in the field of security;
the European missile defense project, which “could be one of the biggest steps toward strengthening Europe this decade”;
the European Union, with which there must be “clear progress toward Ukraine’s membership” and a deepening of all ties—economic, political, and cultural;
Ukraine’s neighboring countries, with which relations “need a new foundation,” particularly Poland and Hungary;
the Middle East and Persian Gulf region, which the president calls one of the most promising global areas for cooperation in security and the economy;
China;
key international organizations that influence global decisions and can make a greater contribution to ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“The same applies to our domestic efforts. New challenges and new tasks are emerging now. All efforts in Ukraine’s frontline and border regions—which are subjected to Russian attacks on a daily basis—require a significant ramp-up. I am counting on an increase in supplies of necessary weapons and all types of drones to our army,” added the Ukrainian head of state.
Zelenskyy stated that one of the key tasks remains preparing for the winter, and that Ukraine must be ready for all possible threats. According to him, it is necessary to accelerate the transformation of state-owned companies, on whose operations the country’s stability largely depends. In addition, the head of state emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s agreements with international partners in the field of reconstruction.
Zelenskyy announced personnel changes designed to ensure the implementation of the updated political strategy and has already offered Yulia Sviridenko a new position.
