At the same time, they allegedly promised him and his family “excellent living conditions.”

Saulius Skvernelis , a Seimas deputy suspected of corruption and former prime minister of Lithuania , was offered the chance to flee to Belarus on behalf of a “Belarusian journalist.” He was allegedly promised “excellent living conditions” for himself and his family.

Despite his suspended status, the lawmaker did not flee but reported the offer to the State Security Department (DGB).

According to DELFI, Skvernelis reported on July 14, while answering questions from journalists in parliament, that he had received two letters allegedly from a Belarusian journalist inviting him to visit the neighboring country.

He said he received the emails even before he was charged with corruption and before parliament lifted his immunity.

“I was invited to visit Belarus—seriously. I received two emails from a Belarusian citizen, a journalist; this was even before all the legal proceedings here, before the charges were brought. The emails stated that, according to their information, I was under suspicion and that political persecution would begin, which is why they were inviting me to Belarus, where they would create all the necessary conditions and opportunities and provide resources and financial support for me and my family,” the politician said.

He noted that he forwarded these emails to the State Security Department (DGB), but received no response. “I forwarded the emails to the DGB, but I believe this is a provocation,” Skvernelis said.

The media reports that a man recently convicted for financial crimes Antanas Kandrotas-Celofanas. He left despite being subject to a pretrial restriction—a written pledge not to leave the country. Kandrotas has been placed on the wanted list.
