The dismissed head of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense also spoke about his conflict with Commander-in-Chief Syrsky.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov the position of advisor, but Fedorov declined.
Fedorov spoke about this on Thursday, July 16, during a briefing, according to New Voice.
“We had a normal conversation yesterday with the president; he offered me the position of advisor or suggested finding some other way to stay on the team. I declined the position of advisor. I never had any intention of becoming a minister, remaining a minister, or seeking positions for myself,” he stated.
Fedorov added that he cannot be accused of engaging in political activities, corruption, or “setting up any schemes.”
“For seven years, I worked alongside the president to implement reforms and was stationed at those ‘hot spots’ of the country’s transformation wherever I was sent. But today, the issue isn’t about me. Today, the issue is about all of us. We can either turn a blind eye and say, ‘Fine, let everything stay as it was,’ or we can say, ‘Stop—the Ukrainian people actually know how to fight,’” the minister noted, emphasizing the need to “change our approaches and tell the truth.”
Mykhailo Fedorov noted that “the conversation was normal, but, let’s put it this way, the choice has probably been made or will be made.”
During the briefing, the minister also stated that Ukraine needs to replace the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi in order to “defeat the enemy asymmetrically.”
Fedorov confirmed the conflict with the commander-in-chief, stating that Syrsky had blocked all of his initiatives and was unwilling to discuss problems, but was “ready to engage in intrigue.”
