The President of Ukraine stated that the former minister will remain on his team.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Mykhailo Fedorov will remain on his team after stepping down as defense minister. The president made this statement during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, according to New Voice.
““I am confident that Mykhailo will remain on my team, and we will discuss what that will look like a little later,” the head of state said.
He added that he “would very much like to see unity” between the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense. Zelenskyy noted that certain issues currently have to be resolved with his involvement, since the leadership of these agencies refuses to sit down at the negotiating table.
“During wartime, the president shouldn’t have to make a choice in such a situation. Honestly. I would very much like to see unity. The parties haven’t found it, and this is a problem not only for them but also for me. In other words, I’m not shirking my responsibility… And I really want them to strengthen Ukraine. But we have what we have. And in such a situation, the choice is either one side or the other. Because without me, they won’t sit down at the negotiating table,” the president said.
At the same time, the head of state added that Igor Klimenko is being considered for the position of Minister of Defense.
At a briefing summarizing his work, Fedorov stated that Ukraine needs to replace the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, in order to “defeat the enemy asymmetrically.” He also stated that he had declined the position offered to him by Zelenskyy.
