A "secret" Ministry Of Defense Shooting Range Was Found Near Gomel, Among The Slag Heaps

It looks like it gets flooded in the spring.

The article "Flagstok" has uncovered the exact location of the new firing range near Gomel, which was inaugurated by the Minister of Defense in May 2023. It was found thanks to updated Google satellite images. It turns out the facility is located among the chemical plant’s slag heaps and is partially flooded with water in the spring.

Authorities announced the opening of a new training ground with a shooting range on the outskirts of Gomel as early as May 26, 2023. It was known that the facility was intended for training and improving shooting skills, including for regional leadership. The opening was attended by Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin and Chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee Ivan Krupko. However, state media did not disclose the exact location of the facility.

Now, as “Flagstok” notes, thanks to updated Google satellite images, it has been determined that the shooting range, measuring approximately 375 by 70 meters, is located in an isolated area among the phosphogypsum tailings piles of the Gomel Chemical Plant.

The publication also drew attention to a notable detail: the builders chose flood-prone land for the facility. As a result, as can be seen in the photo taken in the spring of 2026, part of the shooting range and the trenches appear to be flooded at that time of year.
