RBC-Ukraine reports below on what is known about the meeting between the two leaders.
One hour has been set aside for the talks. The main topic is strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, specifically Patriot missiles. After the meeting, Trump will hold talks with the Syrian president and a press conference.
During the meeting, Zelenskyy stated that the main topics of discussion are air defense, the peace process, and the “drone deal.” The Ukrainian president added that he wants to discuss important details of the cooperation.
Trump on his relationship with Zelenskyy: “We’ve developed a good relationship—from the Oval Office to the present.” In response to Zelenskyy’s remark, “This is not the end,” Trump said, “This is the beginning.”
Trump also stated that Ukraine has a great future thanks to its land, resources, and people.
U.S. Secretary of State Rubio said that the U.S. is discussing the possibility of strengthening Ukraine’s long-range capabilities: “We are discussing the possibility of Ukraine reaching deep into Russia.” Commenting on this, Trump said: “This is an escalation. But it’s an escalation that could lead to the end of the war.”
Speaking about a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, Trump noted that it has “been in the works for a long time,” and compared the war to a fight between two people in a park: “Sometimes, maybe you have to let them fight it out.”
Trump also stated that the U.S. might allow Ukraine to manufacture Patriot missiles.
“A little birdie told me that we’ll give them (the Ukrainians) the right to make Patriots; we’ll show them how to make them,” said the U.S. president.
