Belarusians are discussing the mass exodus of teachers.
In the comments under one of the posts at Threads has sparked a discussion about the staffing situation in Belarusian schools, where users are sharing alarming statistics and personal experiences.
“I attended my son’s parent-teacher meeting (6th grade, Minsk). There’s no computer science teacher, the math teacher quit, and a elementary school teacher will be taking over her class—second shift until 7:30 p.m. The deeper you go into the forest, the more firewood you find,” writes a Belarusian woman under the username kononchuk.julia
Another user, pankevich14, gives a specific example: According to her, eight teachers resigned from a gymnasium in one of the district centers in a short period of time—even though there are only two educational institutions in that town: the gymnasium and one secondary school.
User naudelphan cites an even more alarming figure—according to his data, 21 teachers left one school over the summer. At the same time, he notes with bitter irony that the administrative staff remains fully staffed.
There was no shortage of critical comments directed at the system itself: user vozhiksw sarcastically suggested that, to reduce the workload on teachers, they would now “search children at the entrance”—alluding to recent changes regarding the inspection of school bags.
The author of the original post, kononchuk.julia, responded to the comments by emphasizing that the very fact that teachers are leaving the profession en masse speaks for itself—“why bully them? Let them work; the fact that they’re leaving is a reality.”
