The authorities want to impose a price cap on this product.
In Belarus, the price of first- and premium-grade flour may rise in August and September. This was reported by Svetlana Korotkevich, Deputy Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade .
According to “Belgospishcheprom,” some companies are considering raising flour prices by several percentage points at once. Depending on the manufacturer, the increase could range from 6% to 51.6%, according to Russian media reports.
Among the companies that may adjust their prices are the Minsk, Klimovichi, and Gomel Bakery Complexes. The Ministry of Trade stated that it intends to verify the information regarding a possible price increase. The ministry noted that Decree No. 713, which regulates the prices of socially significant goods, remains in effect in the country.
If the information about price increases is confirmed, the authorities intend to take appropriate measures within the framework of the law.
Korotkevich also emphasized that the principle of a “fair price” applies not only to retailers but also to manufacturers. According to her, an unjustified increase in the cost of raw materials and manufacturers’ products ultimately affects prices for consumers.
The deputy minister urged manufacturers and retailers not to attempt to gain short-term profit by significantly raising the cost of goods.
