Zelenskyy promises to exert strong economic pressure on Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that shipping traffic through the Russian port of Novorossiysk has effectively come to a halt. He made this announcement in an evening address following a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s headquarters on August 28. The transcript of the speech was published by the press service of the Ukrainian president.

According to Zelenskyy, the restrictions on the port’s operations are already affecting Russian exports. The president also stated that the economic consequences for Russia will intensify if Moscow does not change its position on ending the war.

“For the first time in history, Russia is importing gasoline and is effectively spending budget funds to support oil companies. And they will suffer even greater losses if Russia is unwilling to engage in constructive dialogue about ending this war. There have also been reports from our military regarding Novorossiysk: we are already achieving our objective, as not a single vessel is entering or leaving the port of Novorossiysk. And every day like this with no activity in Novorossiysk contributes to the reduction of Russia’s military potential. We will definitely find ways to block their other ports as well. “We did not start this war, and we are responding to Russian actions quite justifiably,” Zelenskyy noted.

The Ukrainian head of state also cited data from Oleg Ivashchenko , head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense . According to information cited by Zelenskyy, internal Russian documents indicate an 80% decline in certain export categories in August alone.

Ukraine is striking Novorossiysk amid ongoing Russian attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure.

On the night of August 12, Ukrainian forces carried out a large-scale combined attack on the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, four Russian ships were damaged as a result, including the frigates “Admiral Makarov” and “Admiral Essen.”
