On the night of August 30, Ukrainian drones struck at least two regions of the Russian Federation: the Leningrad Oblast and the Krasnodar Krai. Explosions were heard there, and eyewitnesses reported fires and secondary detonations, according to OBOZ.UA.
One of Russia’s largest oil refineries in Kirishi and a military airfield in Yeisk were targeted. The Telegram channel Exilenova+ has compiled the details.
Explosions in Yeisk
Russians from the Krasnodar Krai of the Russian Federation complained about the Ukrainian attack overnight; in particular, the explosions were loud in Yeisk.
Reports from there indicated an attack on a military airfield, followed by a secondary detonation.
As of 5 a.m., a secondary explosion at the airfield had been ongoing for over an hour.
NASA satellites are detecting a fire at the airfield.
Quite quickly, a single fire turned into several.
“NASA FIRMS has updated the fire map again; it appears the strikes were successful. Locals are also reporting that the strikes hit not only the airfield itself but also the military town,” Exilenova+ added.
The airfield in Yeysk is one of the Russian Federation’s key military aviation facilities in southern Russia. It houses the training center for the Russian Navy’s naval aviation flight crews and the NITKA complex, where the Russians train their carrier-based aircraft.
Explosions in Kirishi
Explosions were also heard last night in the town of Kirishi in the Leningrad Region.
Afterward, residents of the town witnessed a fire.
The “Kirishinefteorgsintez” oil refinery—one of Russia’s largest oil refineries—was hit. The facility’s refining capacity is approximately 20 million metric tons of crude oil per year, or about 400,000 barrels per day.
The plant produces gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.
The local governor Alexander Drozdenco confirmed the loss.
“Forty-two UAVs were shot down over the territory of the Leningrad Region. A fire broke out in the industrial zone of the city of Kirishi as a result of a UAV attack; emergency services are working at the scene. Combat operations are continuing,” wrote the Russian official, without specifying how many drones were “shot down” by the oil refinery itself.

“The facility is fully integrated into the structure of the Russian oil company Surgutneftegaz. It is the only oil refinery in northwestern Russia and one of the largest in the country,” the post adds.
This oil refinery has been targeted in the past.
For example, on September 14, 2025, the plant suspended oil processing at one of its units following a fire caused by an attack by Ukrainian UAVs. The damaged unit accounts for nearly 40% of the plant’s capacity.
On the night of October 4, 2025, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck the facility; explosions and a fire were reported at the site. The LAB-LABS units, which produce linear alkylbenzenes and linear alkylaromatic sulfonates, as well as the ELOU-AVT-6 unit, which was responsible for water and salt removal and primary oil processing. . Following the strike, the plant was forced to shut down its most powerful crude oil primary processing unit.
On the night of March 26, 2026, Ukrainian drones once again attacked the KINEF oil refinery, which accounted for 6.4% of Russia’s refining capacity. Damage was confirmed at the ELOU-AVT-2 and ELOU-AVT-6 primary oil refining units, as well as at the bitumen production facilities, hydrotreating units, and gas fractionation units.
On the night of May 5, 2026, the refinery came under attack by drones; a fire and damage to infrastructure were reported, leading to a halt in oil refining operations at the facility. The strike caused damage to key units.
