Latvia Has Imposed Restrictions On Goods From Belarus

Belarusian books, clothing, and toys are banned.

As of September 1, in Latvia a ban on the import of a number of industrial goods from Belarus and Russia went into effect. These include printed books and newspapers, clothing, shoes, toys, games, and sporting goods. This was reported by Delfi.

The Latvian government has set the exact date for the ban to take effect. The Cabinet of Ministers adopted the relevant regulations on Tuesday, September 1.

The ban applies not only to goods imported directly from Belarus and Russia. It also extends to products of Belarusian and Russian origin that enter Latvia via other countries.

The list includes printed books, newspapers, and other printed materials; clothing and other finished textile products; footwear; headwear; as well as toys, games, and sports equipment.

According to Delfi, the purpose of the ban is to protect Latvia’s security interests, reduce Belarus’s and Russia’s ability to generate revenue from exports, and limit the flow of Russian propaganda materials into the country.
