London Is Set To Open Its Largest Defense Plant Since World War II

It will manufacture components for drones, missiles, robots, submarines, and jet engines.

The British startup Isembard is set to open the largest defense plant in London since World War II. The four-story production facility and the company’s headquarters will occupy approximately 160,000 square meters. This was reported by the publication Financial Times reported, citing company executives.

The facility is located in the Southwark district in the center of the British capital, on the site of a former car depot. According to Isembard CEO Alexander Fitzgerald, the plant will manufacture components for drones, missiles, robots, submarines, and jet engines. The company will supply its products to the American firm Anduril and the British firm Babcock International, as well as to the UK government.

Isembard was founded in 2024. According to FT sources, it is valued at approximately $500 million. The company recently raised more than $50 million from investors, including the U.S. venture capital firm Union Square Ventures. Only 35 people currently work at the Isembard facility, but the workforce is expected to grow to 200 by the end of the year. The company plans to expand its production network. Currently, there are about 15 Isembard factories operating under franchise agreements in the UK, as well as in the U.S., France, and Germany.
