Lithuanian Intelligence: Russia Is Preparing “False-Flag Attacks” In Europe

Intelligence officers received information about the details of a possible operation.

Moscow may attempt to test NATO's readiness for a collective response. Lithuania has stated that it has information about a possible Russian operation.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys stated that Vilnius has the same intelligence regarding possible hybrid attacks by Russia as other countries in the region and its allies. Specifically, this refers to a possible Russian “false-flag” operation.

“I want to assure everyone that Lithuania has the same intelligence as other countries in the region and the countries that have deployed their forces here,” he emphasized.

Budris noted that he had discussed this information with the NATO Secretary General, his deputy, and the commanders of the armed forces of European countries. According to him, he wanted to make sure that the allies were all assessing the potential threat in the same way.

“I wanted to make sure we were all on the same page. The news is this: yes, we are talking about the same thing. Lithuania has the same information; we discussed this as a possible false-flag operation by Russia,” Budris emphasized.

The minister added that public warnings from European politicians about possible actions by Russia are part of a coordinated campaign. Their goal is to show Moscow that the allies are ready to respond to provocations and will not allow Russia to count on the absence of a collective NATO response.

“That is why I consider the public statements by politicians to be part of a coordinated campaign aimed at warning Russia not to attempt any actions in the hope that they will not trigger Article 5 or lead to an escalation,” the Lithuanian foreign minister explained.

At the same time, the Lithuanian minister stated that countries in the region have already demonstrated their ability to identify and halt such operations, as well as to identify their perpetrators and those who ordered them.

“Russia will not be able to hide. We just need to avoid negative consequences. The situation has not changed today,” Budris concluded.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the coming weeks and months could be a period of active action by Russia. He also did not rule out the possibility that an escalation on the part of Russia could extend to Polish territory.
