Operation "Barrel": Thousands Of Metric Tons Of Oil Destroyed In Russia

Ukrainian intelligence reported a sabotage attack against Russian railway logistics.

The “Freedom of Russia” resistance movement carried out a large-scale operation codenamed “Barrel” behind enemy lines in the aggressor country, the Russian Federation. As a result of the sabotage, more than 10,000 metric tons of oil were destroyed, and losses exceeded $10 million. On September 26, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported this.

During the operation, members of the underground network blew up dozens of tank cars carrying crude oil. They also managed to disrupt the operation of certain elements of the railway logistics system used by the occupiers to transport strategic resources and military cargo.

According to the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), the operation was preceded by extensive preparation. Members of the resistance movement infiltrated relevant enemy structures, obtained classified information, and identified vulnerabilities in Russian logistics.

Oil tankers became a target for the underground movement after Russia began seeking alternative ways to store and transport oil due to strikes by Ukrainian defense forces on oil refining and port infrastructure.

“Barrel” demonstrated that even on its own territory, the aggressor state cannot guarantee the security of its logistics routes,” the intelligence officers emphasized.

The Main Intelligence Directorate noted that all participants in the operation are safe.
