A U.S. Coast Guard aircraft carrying Secretary of Homeland Security Mark Wayne Mullin made an emergency landing on September 2 after one of its engines failed and caught fire.

This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.

According to media reports, the incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 2. After the right engine failed, a Gulfstream C-37A made an emergency landing at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.

“Our right engine has failed, and we would like to declare an emergency,” the Coast Guard pilot told ground controllers, specifying that there were 14 people on board.

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Mark Wayne Mullin also commented on the incident.

“The U.S. Coast Guard pilots made the single-engine landing look like a routine procedure. No panic, just impeccable professionalism. After landing, the pilots told me that this was their first incident of this kind,” he wrote on social media platform X.

The WSJ notes that Mullin and several other high-ranking department officials who were on board the plane were unharmed.

It should be noted that, according to the U.S. Coast Guard’s website, the Gulfstream C-37A has been used to transport high-ranking officials since 2002. Other civilian and military agencies also use modified Gulfstream aircraft based on the manufacturer’s popular commercial business jets.
