France is ready to support the Polish foreign minister's initiative.
Approximately 40% of Russian diplomats in the European Union are agents of Russian intelligence services, which is why they should be expelled. This call was made by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, according to Politico reports.
Sikorski noted that Moscow has long been waging a hybrid war against Europe, and the recent events at the airport in the German city of Leipzig have confirmed this once again.
He is convinced that Russia is attempting to destroy the European Union from within and has launched a hybrid war for this purpose. The Polish minister believes that about 40% of the 2,000 Russian diplomats currently working in Europe are employees of the Russian Federation’s intelligence services. They operate under diplomatic cover and move about freely.
In light of this, Sikorski called for the expulsion of all Russian diplomats suspected of intelligence activities.
In addition, the Polish foreign minister considers it necessary to restrict the freedom of movement of Russian diplomats, limit the issuance of Schengen visas to Russian citizens, and introduce mandatory biometric passes for Russians entering the EU.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that Paris is ready to support Sikorski’s initiative “if circumstances so require.” He also expressed concern over the intensification of hybrid attacks by Russian intelligence services in Europe.
