Chaos Broke Out After The Attack On The Oil Depot At Sochi Airport

Following the overnight attack on the oil depot in Sochi, airlines have been restricted from refueling their aircraft at the city’s airport.

What Has Changed for Airlines

According to a NOTAM, refueling at Sochi Airport is now provided exclusively by the fuel operator LUKOIL for technical reasons—airlines must separately confirm that refueling will be provided by this specific operator.

According to Rosaviatsiya, temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures have also been introduced at the airport to ensure flight safety.

What Happened Overnight

According to the Krasnodar Krai Operational Headquarters, overnight in Sochi and on the “Sirius” federal territory, forces repelled a massive drone attack on civilian infrastructure. In particular, a fire broke out at an oil depot, and drone debris was found in various locations.

Oil and chemical industry facilities in Russia had also been targeted by drone attacks the day before. On the night of September 4, an oil depot and a chemical plant caught fire in several regions of Russia at once—fires were reported in Sochi and Bashkortostan, with one of the facilities located more than 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Even earlier, on the night of August 30, Ukrainian forces struck several key facilities on Russian territory—in particular, the Kirish Oil Refinery in the Leningrad Region came under attack, where a fire was reported following the strike.
