U.S. presidential envoys Steve Whitcoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Ukraine on September 6. The visit is part of Washington’s diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the Russian-Ukrainian war, according to “Dialog.UA”.
At Kyiv Central Station, Whitcoff and Kushner were met by the head of the Office of the President Kirill Budanov and his deputy Serhiy Kislitsa, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Rustem Umerov, and the head of the “Servant of the People” faction David Arakhamia.
It is noteworthy that the meeting appeared to be particularly warm: the participants exchanged not only handshakes but also hugs. Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the American delegation on St. Sophia Square in Kyiv.
After that, Whitcoff and Kushner are to be shown the Wall of Remembrance at the St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery—a place where Ukrainians honor their fallen defenders and where the toll of the Russian war on human lives is particularly evident.
Steve Whitcoff’s meeting with Rustem Umerov drew particular attention on social media. Their embrace is already being called a tradition: as Ukrainian sources note, it is through these two figures that private communication between Kyiv and Washington most often takes place.
The visit by Whitcoff and Kushner also shows that Ukraine remains a priority for the Trump administration.
The cordial nature of the meeting may signal that working-level contact continues between the Ukrainian side and key U.S. negotiators.
