Bloomberg: The U.S. And Europe Have Acknowledged The Failure Of Negotiations With Putin

Western countries are preparing for the Russian Federation's war in Ukraine to continue until 2027.

U.S. and European officials have come to terms with the fact that the war in Ukraine will continue at least until next year, as attempts to resume negotiations with the Kremlin have failed, according to Bloomberg reports, citing sources familiar with the situation.

According to them, the visit by U.S. special envoys Jared Kushner and Steven Whitcroft to Moscow and then to Kyiv did not lead to significant progress. Vladimir Putin, who spoke with them for three hours at the Kremlin, intends to intensify attacks on Ukraine as winter approaches, European officials told the agency.

According to Bloomberg sources, Putin showed no willingness to soften his stance, despite signals from the U.S. that new ideas are needed to restart the stalled peace talks.

Over the next six months, Russia plans to launch attacks on Ukraine’s power grid and heating infrastructure to make life unbearable for civilians, as well as to intensify hybrid attacks in Europe to undermine support for Kyiv, one of the agency’s sources said.

Putin, according to the source, is banking on being in a stronger position by next spring while keeping the Russian economy—which is facing mounting difficulties—from collapsing. Until then, there will be no serious negotiations, the source told the agency.

Putin used the visit by Whitcoff and Kushner to demonstrate his strength to a domestic audience ahead of the State Duma elections, another Bloomberg source said. The trilateral Russian-Ukrainian talks involving the U.S., which were announced by Whitcoff and the Kremlin, may take place after the September vote in Russia, but they are unlikely to bring a peace deal any closer, the sources said.

Under these circumstances, Europe will have to find the resources to provide Ukraine with additional air defense systems, the agency’s sources emphasized. On Tuesday, the United Kingdom announced an additional £100 million aid package for Kyiv.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the country will urgently transfer Patriot missiles from its own stockpiles to Ukraine. “Preparing Ukraine for winter is a top priority and requires decisive and immediate action on our part,” he said.
