Militia arrested mummies at Halloween

Militia detained some people in Minsk Central Shop during a flashmob dedicated to Halloween. Four of them spent a night in militia department. One more of the detainees - Nasha Niva journalist Yaraslau Steshyk – after the clarifyingof the details was set free without a report drawn up.

It should be reminded that the young people were detained at about 7.30 p.m and guarded to the Savetski District Internal Affairs Department of Minsk.

According to Steshyk, a group of disguised in costumes young people (about 15-20 persons) was going to celebrate Halloween. According to him, the action hadn’t any political overtones.

The militiamen detained four action participants disguised in mummy costumes and the journalist of Nasha Niva, who was taking pictures of the events. Y. Steshyk said the militiamen declared the young people in mummy costumes resembled the criminals who were wanted. They also said the journalist had no rights to shoot pictures and resembled a composite picture of a criminal, too.

After the details were cleared out, Steshyk was released without a report drawn up. The militiamen also acknowledged one could take pictures in a public place without any pemission. The reports according to the article 17.1 of the Administrative Code were drawn up against four participants of the action – Shalin, Sakalouski, Tim and Lashkarova.

According to Nasha Niva journalist, it was written in the report that the young people were laying bandage on counters and didn’t react the warnings of the sellers, thus they showed “disrespect to society”. But the detainees said it wasn’t true. For example, they didn’t lay bandage on the counters, but on the contrary, were rolling the bandage on one another disguising in mummies. In the end they didn’t agree with the reports and refused to sign them. After that they were said they would stay in the department till morning.
