Unlawful search in trade unions

The Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BCDTU) lodged a legal application to Igar Ukrainets, prosecutor of the Leninski District of Minsk, in connection with unlawful actions in the office of trade union.

The application says a group of people in civvies and in police uniform rushed into the office of BCDTU on Yakubau Street at about 8 p.m. on 6 December, 2007. Young people – activists of the trade unions movement were in the office at that time. The abovementioned people searched and took pictures of the office, confiscated office equipment. Moreover, members of the trade union Mikola Sergienka and Aleg Korban were detained without lawful grounds and guarded to the Police Department of Minsk Leninski District. BCDTU demands the prosecutor to take urgent measures on abovementioned facts of violation the law.
