Does anything threatens Andrei Klimau in the colony?

The Penal jurisdiction department of the Internal Ministry has informed that the state of health of the political prisoner Andrei Klimau is assessed as satisfactory.

In the letter sent by Yury Barynkau, an acting head of the penal jurisdiction department of the Internal Ministry, as an answer to the request of Anatol Lyabedzka, it is noted that the convicted Andrei Klimau arrived to the colony on October 13 and was registered for dispensary observation with a diagnosis “coronary heart disease, angina pectoris”.

Yury Barynkau has also stated that there are no threats to the personal security of Andrei Klimau in the corrective labour facility No.20 in Mahilyou, the United Civil Party press-service informs.

Yury Barynkau explained that the colony’s workers seized food taken by Andrei Klimau from Minsk remand prison by “their absence of the check list in the list of belongings”. In his letter Yury Barynkau noted that food was returned to Andrei Klimau. As we have informed, that happened in a month after that issue was raised in independent media.

As we have informed, politician Andrei Klimau was arrested on April 3, 2007 for a critical article published on the web. A criminal action was brought up against him on charges relating article 361 Part 3 of the Criminal Code “Appeals through mass media for overthrowing the constitutional state system with the help of mass media”.

The trial was held behind the closed doors. The judge of the Central district court of Minsk Alena Illina sentenced Andrei Klimau to two years of imprisonment.
