1

The Belarusian Helsinki Committee (BHC) sent a request to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Belarus asking to conduct check over the facts of publication of materials of neo-fascist on the Internet.

The BHC demands to take measures to find and exposing guilt of persons, responsible for publication of pro-Nazi materials, and bring the guilty persons to responsibility.

“Belarus, like the whole world, marked International Day against Fascism, Racism, and Anti-Semitism on November 9. This data is not occasional: on November 9–10, 1938, first massacre of Jews in Germany and Austria happened. This event was named Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass.

Kristallnacht marked the beginning of Holocaust, resulted in murdering of 6,000,000 people. Holocaus is considered to be the tragedy of Jews, but it is also an example of where belief of superiority of one nation over another can lead to.

At the time, when the whole world is struggling against fascism, racism, and anti-Semitism, neo-Nazi or neo-fascist groupings operate in Belarus,” the statement of human rights activists says.

According to human rights defenders, Jewish memorials and cemeteries in Vitsebsk, Barysau, Homel, and Minsk are being constantly violated, a memorial in Kurapaty and Yama memorial in memory of Nazis’ victims were repeatedly desecrated.

“A gibbet with hung David’s star and word “Kill Jew!” is drawn on a monument in the center of Brest every year. Swastikas are often drawn in Belarusian cities: BHC volunteers have taken photos of 16 swastikas in Minsk for the last two weeks. Websites containing materials of neo-Nazi (neo-fascist) character are available on the Internet. The BHC human rights activists think “openly racist character of is aimed at stirring up ethic and national hatred, is calling to violence,” the statement says.

The Belarusian Helsinki Committee has addressed the General Prosecutor’s Office asking to conduct check over the facts of publication these materials on websites, take measures to find and exposing guilt of persons, responsible for publication of pro-Nazi materials, and bring the guilty persons to responsibility in order established by the law.

A request to the Minsk city executive committee asking to clear the city of neo-Nazi graffiti is being prepared.
