“Rosoboronexport”: There are no restrictions on deliveries of Russian weapons to Belarus

2

Russian military men are getting ready to deploy missile systems Iskader and state that export deliveries to Belarus are possible.

Short range missile systems Iskander haven’t been deployed in Kaliningrad region, but the political decision has adopted already, Unterfax-AVN was said on Wednesday by Nikolai Makarov, the Russian armed forces' Chief of Staff.

“There are no Iskander systems in Kaliningrad region yet, but the political decision has been adopted, which has been stated by the president recently, and they will appear there with the time,” N. Makarov said.

As said by him, deploying Iskander systems in Kaliningrad region is a response of Russia to deploying the US ABM elements in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Iskander is a short range, solid fuel propelled, theater quasiballistic missile system which is produced in two variants: Iskander-M (version for the Russian army) and Iskander-E (for export). The export variant differs from the system produced on the order of the Defense Ministry of Russia.

Iskander is intended for targets, such as hostile fire weapons, air and antimissile defense weapons, aircraft at airfields, command posts and communications nodes, critical civilian infrastructure facilities at a distance of 280 km.

In their turn “Rosoboronexport” states that enterprises of Russian defense industry won’t have problems with production of short range missile systems Iskander which could be deployed in kalinigrad region in case US ABM elements would be deployed in Easter Europe.

“There won’t be any problems. Undeoubtedly, Iskanders will be produced and delivered on time,” Director for Special Commissions Nikolay Dimidyuk said to journalists in Moscow on Wednesday.

He noted that Kolomna bureau of machine building which designed the system, and Votkinsk plant which prodeuce Iskander are stand on sure ground”.

Answering the question about the possibility of export deliveries of Iskander to Belarus, N. Dimidyuk said that “there would be a certain pause” with export deliveries of systems and their taking in operational service.

“First systems should be delivered to our army,” N. Dimidyuk said.

He noted that there are no limitations for deliveries of Russian weapons to Belarus.

“As far as I know, the first goal is to create a common air defense system with Belarus,” N. Dimidyuk said explaining that in particular a Russian brigade equipped by air defense in particular could be deployed in Belarus.
