Video archive appeared at Belsat TV website

Belarusian independent TV channel Belsat has placed at its website a videoarchive of TV programmess. Many of them are unique while freedom of expression is absent in the country today.

Now the videoarchive of the news programs “In focus” could be viewed at the website www.belsat.eu , as well as all TV programmes produced by the channel. To our mind, the most interesting of them are the political talk-show “Forum” and the programme “Guest of Belsat”.

To your convenience we would like to explain users how to find the archive of programs. In the bottom of the main page a section “Our programmes” should be chosen. Then after choosing the necessary programme, a link “See in archive” should be followed.

The Charter’97 press-centre has asked the coordinator of the TV channel in Belarus Eduard Melnikov to comment this event at the TV channel:

“Firstly, it should be noted that the TV channel Belsat is a unique project, as its programmes are created at the territory of Belarus, and transmitted from the territory of Poland via individual satellite dishes. The number of Belsat viewers in Belarus is growing rapidly. But the emergence of the website www.belsat.eu makes the audience of the TV channel even larger. Now news and archive of all programmes could be watched at the website. That is a multimedia space is created, where viewers can watch Belsat TV programs on the web, make a personal collection. There is a lot of unique information at the website, which is not shown by state-run TV channels. We show the things which are unknown, things that are concealed from Belarusian citizens, as state-run channels do not inform Belarusians, they misinform them,” Eduard Melnikov said.

The journalist remind that the TV Channel Belsat is financed by the government of Poland with support of the European Union. At the moment the question is to register the representations of the channel in the Foreign Ministry of Belarus. “We expect to work openly. Considering that the EU is expecting considerable steps on democratization from Belarus, legalization of the TV channel could be one of these steps,” Melnikov said.
